客路青山外，行舟綠水前。(青山外 一作：青山下)
潮平兩岸闊，風正一帆懸。
海日生殘夜，江春入舊年。
鄉書何處達？歸雁洛陽邊。
譯文
旅途在青山外，在碧綠的江水前行舟。
潮水漲滿，兩岸之間水面寬闊，順風行船恰好把帆兒高懸。
夜幕還沒有褪盡，旭日已在江上冉冉升起，還在舊年時分，江南已有了春天的氣息。
寄出去的家信不知何時才能到達，希望北歸的大雁捎到洛陽去。

北固山：在今江蘇鎮江北，三面臨長江。
客路：旅途。
潮平兩岸闊：潮水漲滿時，兩岸之間水面寬闊。
風正：順風。
懸：掛。
海日：海上的旭日。
殘夜：夜將盡之時。
江春：江南的春天。
歸雁：北歸的大雁。大雁每年秋天飛往南方，春天飛往北方。古代有用大雁傳遞書信的傳說。
青山：指北固山。
鄉書：家信。
